A Child's Perception

This is a picture of an illustration one of my students drew for me, my first year in teaching. The task was to draw one of your favorite things in the world, and this particular student decided to depict me. I was so flattered, at the concept that she would draw me that I have kept it to this very day. I choose this illustration because it shows the admiration and regard that students have for their teachers. I also, chose this for the spelling error and for the humor of it. In the process of learning phonics and phonemic awareness, children often make this mistake by writing words as they sound.  This picture always makes me laugh, and often is a reminder of how the young mind works, when it comes to learning how to read and write.

Awesome Author Focus: Bill Martin Jr

Bill Martin Jr truly was one of "America's favorite children's author." He wrote for almost 60 years, creating a number of loved children's stories, for a young audience, creating memorable literature such as, "Brown Bear Brown Bear" and 'I love our earth". As an early childhood educator, I find that the stories that impact children the most are ones that are filled with rhyme and repetition, colorful pages to capture the young reader, and a clear message that is easily comprehendible to children of a certain audience.

I recommend Bill Martin Jr's story of "Chicka, Chicka Boom Boom" for my top ECE read for this year. I love to engage my classes at the end of the year, in the third and final marking period in preschool with this loveable catchy story. By this point in the year, they have already been introduced to most of the letters in the alphabet, making it exciting and manageable for them to actively participate in the story. This allows for a very stimulating critical thinking discussion after the story to engage the students in the reading and comprehension process.

ENJOY!

My Very First Blog

Hi everyone, welcome to my very first blog!!! Although, I've always aspired to start a blog I'd never attempted to make one. I'm absolutely thrilled at the chance to be able to share my views and give my own unique illustration on how I perceive the world around me.

Hope You Enjoy It! :)
